Acts Bible Study Starting Next Week

Acts

Next week, and for every Monday for the next 29 weeks I’ll be posting my Acts Bible Study online. If you’d like to “attend” this exciting study, all you have to do is tune in every Monday and sound off in the comments to get a good discussion going. I’ll be responding to most, if not all, of your comments, and you’re welcome to respond to each others comments as well.

If you comment on 10 of the next 15 posts on Acts you’ll automatically be entered to WIN a FREE copy of my forthcoming book, Acts: A 10 Week Bible Study.

This is going to be an exciting study and I invite you to attend. I’ve spent a lot of time reading, studying and praying over Acts and I think this study will help you go deeper in your walk with the Lord. You can keep up by following on Twitter, Facebook or signing up on the email list on the right side of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Revelation: Revealing God's Saints

JFK_eternalflame

I love it when the Lord answers quiet, simple prayers. Even the silly ones. I especially love it when He answers them quickly. Last week I was on Facebook and I saw a number of friends’s wives had posted about their husbands just to tell everyone how great they were. My wife never posts on Facebook, and I don’t really expect her to do the same kind of thing. She doesn’t spend a whole lot of time on Facebook and never posts stuff.

But right then I told the Lord, “it would be cool if my wife did the same for me.” I’m not really sure why I even cared, to be honest. It was just a quick little thought that I turned into a feeble little prayer. I didn’t really expect anything because my better half never posts on Facebook. But lo and behold, that evening she posted a quick little note to me, while I was out of the house, about how much she thought of me. It made my week! My wife and the Lord make a great team!

Understanding Nehemiah

800-Nehemiah-6-Starting-Rebuilding

Nehemiah is an interesting book. Nehemiah is given permission to go to Jerusalem and rebuild its walls and the temple. That’s the storyline that everyone is familiar (if you are in fact familiar with Nehemiah). I would encourage you to read it for yourself, it’s a relatively short book. Read it here.

The storyline that people can easily miss if they don’t know what they are looking for is how important it was to Nehemiah and the people of the day to reestablish one of the most important aspects of daily life in Jerusalem: Laus Perennis.

Definitions Of Terms In Acts

LessonsFromActs

I’ve noticed that many people misunderstand and misinterpret many things in the book of Acts when they don’t have some foundational understandings of a few simple terms used in Acts. Here they are:

Names In The Book Of Acts

LessonsFromActs

This is just for fun today…

Names are an interesting cultural difference between us and the ancients in the book of Acts. For us, names are largely set in stone at birth. Very few people in our culture legally change their names at any point in life, and often that’s seen as a little strange. Most people have a first and middle name and if they don’t like one they simply go by the other.

Back in the days of Acts, things were different. They didn’t have a social security number or a birth certificate on file in a centralized government. The nobles might have, but record-keeping didn’t extend to the masses. People were often given new names by their friends and cohorts which stuck. Other times, especially in the case of Jews, people would change their names to something more appropriate for trade in whatever culture they were in.
